Job Description:

Supports financial operations for The Chicago Community Trust, The Chicago Community Foundation, and the Trust’s supporting organizations and affiliates. The Staff Accountant assists with financial reporting and analysis, grants disbursement, gift receipt processing, due diligence, reconciliations, month end and year-end close and planning.

Job Duties:

  • Lead monthly close for assigned business units.
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts including bank, investments, and liabilities.
  • Produce completed financial package for assigned Supportive Organizations and specific donor Collaboratives.
  • Support due diligence work for grant disbursements and/or gift receipt processing as assigned.
  • Review and post gift entries into accounting system (EFTs, Wires, checks etc.)
  • Support finance team strategic projects such as Concur upgrades, ERP transition, budgeting
  • Complete the following as it relates to the annual audit:
    • Complete grant and revenue reconciliation for the Trust, the Foundation, supporting organizations and affiliates, including elimination of intercompany grants and receipts.
    • Complete detailed audit schedules
    • Coordinate the pulling of samples for testing major accounting processes, such as grants, receipts, wire transfers, and payroll.
    • Assist in completion of the consolidated audited financial statements.
    • Provide information prepared by client documentation (PBCs) as requested by external auditors.
  • Complete special projects and duties as assigned.

Experience and Skills:

Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
  • Two to three years related work experience required.
  • Two years of audit experience with a medium to large accounting firm is desirable and a real plus.
  • Knowledge of general accounting software.
  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills.
  • Excellent organization and communication skills.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
