Job Description:

Internship Purpose:  

Service is the heart of the Trust.  The Trust believes that each employee represents the Trust’s commitment to service and plays an essential role to deliver on our mission to lead and inspire philanthropic efforts that measurably improve the quality of life and prosperity in our region. 

 The Intern will assist The Chicago Community Trust in delivering excellence on a portfolio of sustainable development projects, including grant-making and special initiatives. This is an up to one year paid internship working up to 21 hours per week. 

Job Duties:

  • Provide intellectual and coordination support on large projects
  • Research and writing
  • Edit and review deliverables
  • Design online, digital and print materials
  • Schedule and coordinate meetings, interviews, events and other similar activities
  • Prepare meeting agendas, minutes, notes and internal support materials
  • Maintain records
  • Other tasks as assigned

Experience and Skills:


Job Qualifications:

  • First-year graduate-level student in urban planning, policy or related degree preferred
  • Excellent planning, coordination and research skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skillsCritical thinking required; ability to self-start on multiple projects with multiple organizations and individuals
  • Ability to develop strong working relationships in a short period of timeExperience of and enjoyment in working collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite; GIS; some web design skills requiredKnowledge of the Chicago region and/or experience working with local and state governments, nonprofit leaders and philanthropies in the Chicago region or elsewhere
  • Understanding of the interrelationship between environmental integrity, economic prosperity and social equity, with some experience in one or more of these subject areas
  • Understanding of urban and regional planning, sustainable practices, and community and economic development, with some experience in one or more of the fields
  • First-year graduate-level student in urban planning, policy or related degree preferred
